The Mirisavati Dagaba. The Isurumuniya Lovers. The Loha Prasada or Brazen Palace Anuradhapura derived its name from its founder Anuradha, a minister who took interest in setting up a village on the banks of Malawatu Oya. It was here that the Sinhalese race was born around the 6th century B.C.
Anuradha is also the name of a Sinhalese prince who endeavored to built a reservoir and residence for the facilitation of the village dwellers. The 3rd century princess Sanghamitta made Sri Lanka an important place of Buddhist interest when she had the branch of the the Mahabodhi tree in Gaya planted in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The tree lives to this day and attracts thousands of tourists each year as one of the oldest living trees in the world.
