Windows 98, Windows XP. 5SPICE 5Spice is a new graphical user interface that wraps around a traditional Spice simulation engine, presenting a single application to the user. It offers easy to use analogue circuit simulation for the typical circuit designer. This version has not been fully evaluated. For the moment, to use it, you will need to enter the schematics by hand using the components available in the library supplied WINSPICE WinSpice is a port of Spice3F4 to Win32 systems.
WinSpice is ported to run in a window as a native 32-bit application. It can generate waveform plots to individual floating windows and contains a powerful scripting language. For the moment, you will need to save the excerpts given in the IA Linear Circuits & Devices web page as text files with appropriate names, e.g.
Diodes.cir using Notepad or similar. You can then open them in Winspice. PSPICE 9.1 from Dr. T Roppel's web site (file name = 91pspstu.exe, file size about 28 Mbyte). This is the student version 9.1 of OrCAD PSpice.
When you install the student version, be sure to choose SCHEMATICS as your interface, not CAPTURE. This version is similar to the package being used for demonstrations in lectures, to demonstrate the behaviour of typical circuits. It has a comprehensive design entry interface (the SCHEMATICS feature), and a powerful graphics post-processor for displaying the results. It is difficult to provide the various schematics and library entries needed in a compact form, so the simplest way to use this package is to save the SPICE excerpts given in the web page as text files with appropriate names, e.g. Diodes.cir using Notepad or similar. You can then open them using the File Open in the pSpice simulator, without the need to enter schematics. These files (available by FTP from the archive at Imperial College) need to be compiled and linked etc before use.
